DESCRIPTION:The Somerset County Health Department has announced its vaccination schedule for the month of September. All events will be at the Somerset County Health Department\, Section C\, 8928 Sign Post Road\, Suite 2\, Westover\, MD. Somerset Health is offering 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd (additional) and booster doses of Pfizer and Moderna to eligible persons. Appointment is preferred but not required. Clinics are as follows:  \n\n Age 6 months to 5 years\, Wednesdays\, 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. \n Ages 5 and older\, Wednesdays\, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. \n Ages 5 and older\, Fridays\, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. \n\nIndividuals eligible for one (1) booster\, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):  \n\n Everyone ages 5 and older can get one (1) booster after completing their COVID-19 vaccine primary series (2 doses of Pfizer\, 2 doses of Moderna or 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson). \n\nIndividuals eligible for two (2) boosters\, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):  \n\n Adults age 50 years and older \n People ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised \nPeople who got two (2) doses (1 primary dose and 1 booster) of Johnson & Johnson \n\nTo schedule an appointment\, please call 443-523-1920 during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). SUMMARY:Tobacco Cessation Classes
DESCRIPTION:Smoking leads to disease\, disability\, and harms nearly every organ in the body. Beginning September 6 and September 7\, the Somerset County Health Department will be hosting adult smoking cessation classes at different locations in the county.  \nThe Smoking Cessation Program is a 10-week program to help individuals quit using tobacco products. With the assistance of a certified quit coach\, participants will develop their own personalized plan to help them reach their goals. The program includes 8 weekly core sessions followed by 2 additional support sessions. Participants will be provided with a cessation workbook and will also receive incentives for participating. Vouchers for free nicotine replacement therapy are also available to all participants.  \nThe program will be held in the following locations:  \n\nTuesdays\, 3:00pm – 4:00pm at the Princess Anne Library (11767 Beechwood St.\, Princess Anne\, MD) \nWednesdays\, 11:00am – 12:00pm at the Somerset Wellness and Recovery Center (11674 Somerset Avenue\, Princess Anne\, MD) \nWednesdays\, 3:00pm – 4:00pm at the Crisfield Library (100 Collins St.\, Crisfield\, MD) \n\nEligible participants must be 18 years or older and a current tobacco user. One-on-one virtual or in-person classes are available by appointment. DESCRIPTION:When it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle\, whether that be eating healthier foods or managing stress\, having support can make a positive difference. Starting September 5\, the Somerset County Health Department will be hosting a free diabetes education support group. The goal of this FREE group is to make positive life changes\, improve health\, and prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.  \n  \nSessions will be held:  \n\nTuesdays\, 5pm at the Princess Anne Library (11767 Beechwood Street\, Princess Anne\, MD) \nWednesdays\, 5pm at the Crisfield Library (100 Collins Street\, Crisfield\, MD)\n\n  \nAlongside a certified lifestyle coach\, participants will work through modules and activities to add healthy habits\, create shared goals and inspire each other. The deadline to register is September 2\, 2022. Sessions begin September 5\, 2022.  \n  \nThis activity is part of the Rural Equity and Access to Community Health (REACH) program and is funded by TidalHealth through a grant from the Maryland General Assembly as part of the Maryland Health Equity Resource Act.
