Westover, MD – When it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle, whether that be eating healthier foods or managing stress, having a partner can make a positive difference. Starting April 2021, the Somerset County Health Department, in partnership with FHI 360, a non-profit human development organization, are launching a new virtual program, ‘PARTNER UP to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes.’

‘PARTNER UP to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes” is a free opportunity to participate in a yearlong program to help you make positive life changes, improve your health, and prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.

Alongside a local certified lifestyle coach, participants and their support partners will work through modules and activities to help you and your support person add healthy habits, create shared goals and inspire each other. Your support person can be a spouse, partner, adult family member or good friend. The first session is April 1, 2021 from 5:15-6:15 p.m.

The Somerset County Health Department is one of six sites selected to implement this new program. FHI 360 was awarded funding for two years to determine whether participants in a CDC-recognized diabetes prevention program who joined and participated with a partner rather than alone, would have greater success levels in the 12-month lifestyle change program.
