EASTERN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services protects the public, its employees, and detainees and offenders under its supervision. Located in central Somerset County, the Eastern Correctional Institution opened in 1987. The Institution is a medium-security prison for men built as two identical compounds (East and West) on a 620-acre tract. It has a pre-release unit, a minimum security annex for 610 inmates, and an operating capacity of 2,665 medium security inmates.

HEALTHY FAMILIES LOWER SHORE 

On April 10, 2012, three Community Behavioral Health clinics opened their doors to serve the outpatient mental health needs of the communities in Salisbury, Maryland in Wicomico County, Cambridge, Maryland in Dorchester County and in Centerville, Maryland in Queen Anne’s County. The Community Behavioral Health mission is to provide the highest quality mental health care and services to the population residing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Joint Commission Accreditation was granted to Community Behavioral Health on June 20th 2014. The Joint Commission is an independent national organization that oversees safety and quality of health care.

Community Behavioral Health’s outpatient mental health programs serves the mental health needs for adults, children, adolescents, geriatrics, and families. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program was established to provide community based services. Certified addiction services allowed for the provision of individualized care to patients with co-morbid conditions of substance use and mental health disorders. Dr. Teresa Crowe, Ph.D., a Professor of Social Work from Gallaudet University, was instrumental in establishing the telepsychiatry program for the deaf and hard of hearing community residing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) is the largest provider of free, direct legal services in Maryland and the state’s 3rd largest law firm*. SOMERSET COUNTY LOCAL MANAGEMENT BOARD

The Somerset County Local Management Board is a non-profit organization that serves as the local coordinator and planning entity for programs for children, youth and families. By analyzing demographic data and talking to both key informants and members of the community, the SCLMB assesses the most pressing problems facing children and their families and develops a plan to generate the resources and implement programs to meet those needs. The SCLMB emphasizes prevention, early intervention and community-based services. Our goal is to promote a safe, healthy and stable environment for all Somerset County children and families.
