The Partnership Earned Two Emmy Awards Through Powerful Real-Life Stories
Baltimore, MD (July 24, 2018) — The Maryland Department of Health Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) partnered with Maryland Public Television (MPT) on a public awareness campaign regarding the heroin/opioid epidemic, which resulted in MPT being the recipient of two Emmy® Awards.
The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) recently presented MPT with the Emmy® Awards, during its 60th Emmy gala on Saturday, June 23.
MPT earned an Emmy in the prestigious Community Service category for the film “Breaking Heroin’s Grip, Road to Recovery.” The program aired on multiple TV, cable, and radio stations throughout the state of Maryland. It focused on three individual’s stories that describe their struggles with substance use disorders and its impact on families and loved ones.
In the category of Health/Science — Program Feature/Segment, MPT earned an Emmy for “Overcoming Opioids: Fentanyl,” which showcased a mother’s story of losing her son to an overdose of fentanyl and highlighted some of the services and programs provided by BHA.
The partnership has resulted in numerous public service announcements, digital stories, radio spots, and digital media that provide important lifesaving information to Maryland residents about substance use disorders. The awards highlight the strong partnerships between agencies working together to combat this public health crisis.
